The N Word Part 2

After the last post I got lots of emails and a few phone calls. Why people still refuse to just post their comments is beyond me. I have considered posting the emails in the comments section but that would not be right. I also had conversations on Saturday night with some guys on the use of the N word.

I’m not going to try to list everything that was said because it would be a very large post and I try to stay away from that.

One guy said (and I am going to use this one) he doesn’t use the word even when telling a story. He changes the word to “black” so that if someone else tells the story the N word ends with him. I like that approach and will try to adopt it as well. There is no need for me to use it even when I quote someone. I know that if you are going to quote a person you are supposed to repeat them word for word but I think I will make the exception. I say that because if someone says something worth repeating and they just happened to be stupid in their choice of words I don’t think I have to share their ignorance just their insight. So I will edit out the hurt they were trying to inflict and leave in helpful information the story may hold.

Another guy was saying how he views the people that use the word as classless and almost subhuman. He said that the only purpose for the word is to inflict pain on others and that if that is the type of person that you are then you are less than human. I’m not sure if I would take it that far but I do understand his point.

We talked about how non-black people sometimes grow up around black people and think that makes it okay for them to use the word. That has always fascinated me. You would think that growing up around black people would make them more sensitive to the way black people feel. To be fair that is what happens to “some” of them. I guess no two people are the same. As one friend says “if it is in you it is just in you”.

I grew up around nothing but black people and I rarely heard the word. That takes me back to my original statement in the first post. Usage of the word says more about the person using it than it does the person or people it is aimed.

Another guy said that an option in dealing with the user[s] is when they are using it is to say “hold on for a second” and walk away and not come back. That one made me laugh out loud. I think I may like that one too much. I know I will use that one or a form of it.

If we do nothing then people will continue to use it either because they don’t know the pain they cause or they don’t care. If we all do a little and pass it on we can make a difference. I don’t want to write a part 3.

The N Word

Today I was in the casino and I was listening to 3 guys talking. They were not talking to me and I don’t think they knew I could hear their conversation. They were talking about some guys and they referred to them as “niggers”. I was stuck on their use of the word and didn’t hear much else of the conversation except every time they used the word. The reason I noticed it was because they were white guys.

By definition the word nigger is; a term used to describe a black person, who is stereotypically considered bad, poor, ignorant, lazy, addict or criminal. This term was first used during the period when blacks were discriminated against and used as slaves. Historically a modulated mispronunciation of "negro" by slave-handlers in the deep south, and now a term of endearment between some black people. People seek to remove its racist connotations by reversing its use, but ultimately it can cause racial boundaries rather than remove them.

All that being said I have never heard a white person call another white person a nigger. The usage as far as I know is reserved for black or dark skinned people. It is not a word that freaks me out. I know white people that use it and I don’t think they are racist when they do. It does make me wonder if their vocabulary is so small that they could not find another word. I find myself missing their conversation because I get stuck on that word.

I’m not trying to make myself bigger by talking about others like I have never used the word. I have used it and will use it again at some point. What I don’t do is use it around other races. Other than my wife, I doubt if more than 2 or 3 non-black people have ever heard me say “nigger”. I will say context has a lot to do with it. If they are telling a story or quoting someone then I would say it is okay to use the word. I think the negative usage of the word says more about the person using it than it does the person the word is aimed at.

I know there are some white people that will say that if black people can say it then why can’t I use it too. That is a good question. My answer is there is nothing stopping them from using it. What I don’t understand is why they want to use it. It is such a derogatory word and considered by most black people as the ultimate insult from a non-black person. I will say that when I hear someone (in general) use that word I think a little less of them each time they use it. When it is used as an insult it is about as low as you can go. Lower than anyone needs to go. It is like kicking someone when they are already down.

I like to keep this stuff short so let me wrap this up by saying that if you only use this word to describe a black person then you are wrong to use it. That makes it racist. End of story.

Occupy Wall Street #2

The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement is working and I hope they don’t give up. The 1% can’t attack them directly so they are using politicians (they paid for them so they may as well use them) to try to break them up. Politicians can’t force anyone to do anything but they can have the police do it for them. These cops, for whatever reason, appear to have a huge chip on their shoulders. If you look at the footage of the government’s response to crowds in the Middle East and northern Africa to that of the government’s response to the OWS movement there is not much difference. The police are brutal to unarmed and peaceful protesters because they know they can get away with it. Not all police act this way but when they don’t speak out against those that do, nothing will change. My point is they are acting just like the governments in countries that we say need to be changed. The excessive use of force doesn’t seem to be working. So far it only seems to be making more people come out.

I was talking to a guy on Saturday night and he said he was against OWS because they want something for nothing and they are just lazy. He went on to say that they are nasty, stinky, disrupting business and not spending any money. I didn’t even bother to disagree with him because I felt it would be a waste of time because his mind was already made up. I just walked away from him laughing to myself. He is allowing himself to be caught up in the little things and not seeing the bigger picture. If you do the opposite of the things he complained about then it would not be much of a movement. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion and that is what I write, my opinion.

The OWS movement is about fairness and that is subjective. They feel that over the past few decades’ workers have been asked to do more work with less people for the same pay and that is not fair. The 1% feels that is fair because they take the risk at starting a business. What is fair depends on how you look at it.

When I hear The Newt say that children should be janitors at school to save the school money and hear people agree with him tells me that I see the world through different glasses. The sad thing is there are people that would vote for him and complain when their child has to work at school. What is fair depends on how you look at it.

Veterans Day

Veteran’s Day is a holiday to honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces. Having served and retired from the military I know the sacrifices are large and the rewards are small. These people do an OUTSTANDING job and this country should show more appreciation.

I was ashamed to see Senator Jim DeMint from South Carolina say "We're pandering to different political groups with programs that have proven to be ineffective," DeMint said on the Senate floor. "All Americans deserve the same opportunity to get hired. I cannot support this tax credit because I do not believe the government should privilege one American over another when it comes to work." This is the same guy that complained in 2007 about Democratic legislation to pull the troops out of Iraq. He is all for using troops but against rewarding them for their efforts. To be fair he did end the end vote for the veteran jobs bill.

If there is a group that should be pandered to it is Veterans. Without them there would be no US. I say that not because I am one of them but because it is FACT. We can disagree about deserved compensation for their service to this country but not about their worth to our freedom. Having a military is not an option that we get to debate. Those who serve in our military are people with lives just as complex as yours and comments like Mr. DeMint’s is an insult to their patriotism.

As I sit here I would like to explain what it is like to serve in the military but I can’t. I don’t know how to put it into words, if it is even possible. Knowing that you are a part of something that is essential to the wellbeing of those you love and those seeking to profit from your labor. Knowing you are a part of a group of people that would give their life to save yours and also knowing that you may be asked to do the same. It is a sense of being that I don’t think you can find anywhere else. It’s a beautiful thing. That is why the military call themselves family. If you have a close family then you may be able to understand that it is a closeness that only those inside can truly comprehend.

Also know that many of those veterans you see have been put in situations they don’t talk about. If they choose to share any of them with you, don’t judge them just listen. They wear scars that you cannot see. They wear them for you.

This Veteran’s Day show some love to those who wear the military uniform, both past and present. Give them (not me) a thank you from your heart. They work and worked for you.

Question Authority

I don’t write much about religion but this has been on my mind a lot lately and it also applies to politics. Far too often we take the word of our leaders and don’t question their motives enough. We turn a blind eye to their actions because they are our home team and wearing our uniform. We allow them to go against our values and beliefs because they say it is a just cause. No proof just their word. That should not be enough. We should question those in charge.

I’m going to use religion but it also applies to politics. If you are a Christian and believe in the teachings of Jesus then you should believe in peace and love for humanity. Jesus taught us to love each other and to be peaceful. Even when they came to take him and he knew he would die he was still nonviolent. Even as he was dying he asked GOD to forgive them. That is what I was taught and that is what I believe.

Since Jesus died on the cross for our sins there have been many wars fought in his name. How can people go out and kill others in his name when he preached love and peace? The answer is Evil. If you believe in GOD who is good then you must believe in Satan who is evil. The bible teaches that evil is at work 24/7 and never takes any time off. It is always trying to gain more and more influence over us. I think the easiest way to do that is to get in positions of authority. In those positions large numbers of people can be told to do things that go against the teachings of Jesus.

One would think that if Christians are told to do things that go against what Jesus has said is the right thing to do there would be a revolt. I think most people would go along. They would go along because as long as they believe the person telling them what to do is on their team or is wearing the uniform of their home team they will follow.

The Pope can say go to war because GOD said to do it and no questions are asked. He is the home team. The President can say the same thing with the same response because he is the home team. If you question them you are a nonbeliever or unpatriotic.

If Satan was to get elected President how many Christians do you think would follow him? Even though he was clearly going against the Constitution many would still follow him. If Satan were to get in charge of a church or a group of churches and was leading the congregation in doing things that goes against the teachings of Jesus many would follow.

I look at all the wars fought in the name of GOD from the Christian Crusades to the Settlement of Israel and I have to ask myself if Satan had a hand in any of it. Does GOD need us to kill each other to get his work done or does it make Satan happy. Look at all the miracles GOD has performed from parting the sea to raising the dead. I find it hard to believe he needs us to kill each other but I think it works for Satan.

Just because a person holds an office or position doesn’t mean they are perfect and without fault. Never assume a person is on your team just because they are wearing the uniform. Also look at what they are doing and be sure their actions match your beliefs.

Evil never takes a day off.

Occupy Wall Street

On Monday I received an email asking me why I had not posted a comment about what was going on with the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) people. In the email I got the impression that they were trying to say that I was waiting on the main stream media to tell me what to say. That may not have been their intent and could just be the way I took it. I believe it was just me because if you read the things I write you know I don’t always agree with the people on the left and that is where I think I line up politically.


So anyway about the OWS people AKA The 99%. My thoughts about them are reflected in a tweet that I sent out Wednesday night and I have not heard anyone else say this and therefore not coming from the main stream media. “At some point the 1% will realize that the 99% are the TRUE job creators. Without the 99% ANY product brought to market would be WORTHLESS.”

These 1% people need a dose of reality. The truth is they were luckier than anything else. Luck does not make you a better person. If you listen to Fox News and the people on the Right, luck is like being touched by the hand of GOD.

We are all in this together. We are not alone on an island. We are all just people and there is nothing special about any of us. If everyone could understand that we are all equal I think this world would be a better place. I don’t expect to see that in my life time.

The richest person that I know (I think he is the richest) is a liberal. He comes from a rich family and has made more money of his own. After you get past his wealth he is just like anyone else. I called him to get permission to talk about him. He was okay with it as long as I don’t say who he is. He is just like any other guy. He drinks scotch (I don’t remember what type) and smokes cigars (the kind that I don’t think he is supposed to have). I can’t speak about his family but they appear to be close. We have had some really interesting conversations over the past few years. We have talked about past girlfriends, things that he is afraid of; the reality shows that he likes aliens, government conspiracies, and people who pretend to be his friend because of his money. I say this only to show that he is just like the 99% but with money. He is human. We all are.

If you look over the past few decades the income of the 1% has gone up while the income of the 99% has stayed the same or gone down. The profits of most companies have gone up and in some cases are recording record profits. When a company post record profit it seems strange to me that the only ones to benefit from that profit are the people at the top. That is not fair in my eyes. That is one of the complaints of the 99%.

There are many complaints that I see from looking at the signs people are holding up while protesting. Most I agree with and some I don’t understand but I support their right to protest. I do wonder how long it will be before someone tries to make money off of their efforts.

Let me end this by saying what I have said many times before. Hypocrisy and blind greed are two of the things that are killing this country. Those two things describe far too many of the 1%.

Military Service

I know that I take this personal because I am one of them. Again there are groups of people going after the military. Complaining that they are paid too much and/or the retirement package is too generous. I know my opinion is biased but I still say BULL SHIT (sorry mom) to both complaints.

I only did 20 years and had to struggle to get there because my back was and still is very bad. The military is a young person job. You can’t stay in until you are 65 unless you are a general. Even if you are in support like I was you still have to train and let me tell you it was not easy. If you are unable to train you will be kicked out. It’s called a medical discharge or retirement.

People want to cheer for the troops but they don’t want to pay them. I’m not talking about everyone, just those that are complaining. They will wear the ribbon or bumper sticker saying “Support the Troops” but when it comes to funding they say “NO”. I will be the first to say that we spend too much money on defense. By that I mean building way too many airplanes and tanks and not enough body armor. Where most countries have 500 planes we have 5000. I believe we are planning for a type of war that will likely never happen. Like when the country was founded the way war was fought is not the way we did it. The British lined up and marched out in the open. We hid behind trees and took cover. We were in violation of the rules of war. We had no choice because we were outnumbered and they were well trained. It was a new type of fighting and the British were not prepared for it. We need to be prepared to fight any type war and we will always need troops.

I say that because the people that I’m talking about continue to push for more aircrafts and tanks but then want to cut the pay and benefits of the troops. When they do this it’s not just the active duty they want to cut but the retired as well. Our contracts are not like they are with a company they are as if they were written in sand. They can be washed away and rewritten after completion of service. My fear is that the military pay and benefits may be reduced to the point that we don’t have enough people to make a career out of it.

As it is now were don’t have enough people. Look at our military now. We have very young men and women doing 7 and 8 tours in combat. They do this for VERY little money. That is so very WRONG. No one should be asked to risk their lives that many times in (as with everything that I write) my opinion. The suicide rate for active duty is higher than it has ever been. Stress takes its toll on you no matter how strong you are. There is a reason these people are killing themselves. The military is not an easy gig.

It’s not just the wars they have to deal with. They have training for their job (medic, computers, mechanic…) but also training to be a soldier (weapons, chemical warfare, hand to hand combat training…). They have to exercise to stay in shape. Then they have to deal with PCS (permanent change of station) about every 2 to 3 years. Then you throw in a few TDY (temporary duty) assignments every year or so. Not to mention the Deployments like to Iraq and Afghanistan. The military is not easy by any means. Now we have these crazy people saying we are too nice to them.

I had someone tell me that it’s not right that I could do 20 years and retire. They said you can’t do that in any other job. Well the military is not like any other job. It’s a job that most people choose not to do but everyone needs. I thought about trying to go into detail and tell them why but then thought, what’s the point. You know how it is when you talk to someone that has their mind made up before the conversation began. People complain about the price of insurance until they need it. It’s easy to complain about the military when you have never served in it. If my mother didn’t read this I would have lots of colorful word to use about the people that complain because this really gets under my skin. So I will just say the military have 20 year retirement because physically people can’t do much more than that.

It’s painful when you go into a contract with your government and you complete your end of the bargain then your government changes what they agreed to. It’s as if they kicked you in the balls then said thank you.

To those people that want to change the military benefits and think we are paid too much, YOU’RE WELCOME.

Voter Suppression

Voter suppression as defined by Wikipedia: Voter suppression is a strategy to influence the outcome of an election by discouraging or preventing people from exercising their right to vote. It is distinguished from political campaigning in that campaigning attempts to change likely voting behavior by changing the opinions of potential voters through persuasion and organization. Voter suppression instead attempts to reduce the number of voters who might vote against the candidate or proposition advocated by the suppressors. Some may say that Wikipedia is a leftist organization but I think that definition is spot on and doesn’t mention any political parties.


When President O’bama won in 2008 with the large support of the black and youth vote, it put fear in the hearts of Republicans. Rather than trying to change the minds of those voters they choose to restrict their voting rights. Almost every state in the union has or is trying to make changes to its voting laws since President O’bama was elected. People like to say that we are ALL equal but there is a large group of people out there that would disagree. They don’t want a Democrat in the White House but a black one, hell no.

I thought the Jim Crow south days were long gone but this Tea Party group of Republicans have other plans. They are trying to bring those days back. They don’t see voting as a right that should be extended to all citizens. They fear the black, youth and elderly voters. Why else would you turn away a voter with a state school I.D. card and accept someone with a hunting license? That is a question I would like for my Republican readers to answer for me. I know most people will not admit to being Republican but I need an answer.

The Tea Partiers (Republicans) say they want to take their country back and this is how they plan to do it. They want to deny as many Democratic voters of their right to vote as possible. They sell it to the public by saying they are trying to stop voter fraud. When you look back through history the cases of voter fraud can't hold a candle to voter suppression. Yet Republicans set their sights on this one and they are trying to sell it to the nation. The Republican plan appears to be; if the people don’t like what we are saying then we will remove their ability to voice their opposition. That is the New Tea Party’s idea of democracy.

Every citizen should be allowed their right to vote. That’s what a democracy is. When your message is wrong you have to cheat to win. We need to protest these changes. Maybe the O’bama administration will stand up and fight this attempt to change federal law. Based on his past actions I would not hold my breath. He talks a good game but that’s about it. We need a President that will be on the side of the little people and will not allow their rights to be taken away. Maybe I am asking too much of him.

Can't Change Facts

Why can’t people admit when they say or do something that was wrong? “I was wrong” is something that you will never hear our leaders say. That goes for both parties. It even goes for lots of regular people. Like the guy who said that in 1776 ALL people were equal. Everyone knows that was not true in the United States. You can’t say that a slave was equal to his master in a rational conversation. You can have a play on words to worm your way out but it doesn’t change the facts. Rather than admit that they are wrong people will try to change rational thought.


I wonder if we are to blame. Are we putting too much pressure on people to be perfect? People are going to make mistakes. Sometimes it is not even a mistake it is just something they overlooked. That was the case in the 1776 comment. When I corrected him I was wrong in what I wrote. I said in my comment to him that “all WHITE men were created equal”. That was not true at all. During that time if you were a poor white man you were not equal to a rich white man. I have no problem saying “I was wrong”. My wife tells me all the time when I am wrong. It’s not a big deal. This “always right” mindset is even more prevalent in elected office and I feel that we are to blame.

My reason for bringing this up is because I was watching the former Vice President pushing his book on TV for the past few days. He appears to have no regret for anything. There were a mountain of things (in my opinion) that his administration did wrong and he is okay with all of them. I am only going to list a few because I try to keep my posts short. The BILLIONS of dollars that the Clinton administration left in surplus was given away. They were warned about the attack that happened on 9-11 that cost 3000 lives. BILLIONS of dollars went missing in Iraq and to this day is still unknown. The Torture of prisoners that they renamed “Enhanced Interrogation Techniques”. The invasion of Iraq because they had weapons of mass destruction. The outing of the CIA agent. Allowing Osama to escape when they had him in Tora Bora. The mess in New Orleans with hurricane Katrina. The list goes on and on.

Why can’t they just say “we messed up”? We all or most of us know they made mistakes. They just continue to do what they were doing and pretend that everything is fine. If we let them get away with this stuff it tells the next person that this is the way we do things.

My biggest fear with all of the things the Bush administration did is the torture of prisoners. Just because they changed the name does not mean the rest of the world did the same thing. When Cheney was asked if the things they did to prisoners were done to an American service member would it be okay? He said we were justified. He knows he is a war criminal and the rest of the world knows it. My fear is that someone from the Bush administration is caught outside of the United Stated and arrested and charged for war crimes it will put the current President in a tight spot. What could the U.S. do about it? We can’t change the facts. Are we going to say it wasn’t torture because we changed the name? I don’t think that would fly outside this country.

Religion in Politics

This is something that has bothered me for a long time. Not because I have a problem with religion because I don’t. I consider myself a Christian. I have a problem with the use of religion in politics. Let me start off saying that I don’t expect people to be perfect because I know for a fact that I am not. I have a problem with people that call themselves Christians and expect others to be perfect while they are not. I have a problem with people that gather lots of money and power while turning their backs on the poor and the sick saying “I am a Christian”. If I remember the bible correctly that is not the way Jesus did things.


I have a problem with ANY politician using religion in their quest for office. It is a defense that you can’t really fight. They could be Satan worshipers for all we know. GOD allows evil people to govern so that his people will turn to him. Just because people say that they are Christians doesn’t make it so. Anyone can say that they are Christians and followers of Christ but not all can walk the walk. I find it hard to believe that Jesus would end social services to the poor in order to give more to the rich or to fund wars. That is what the Tea Party would have you believe.

Why bring religion into this at all is what I can’t understand. If GOD wants them in office and that is why they are running, they will win. They are there to do GOD’s will and they don’t need to tell us about it. We will support them because we like what they are doing not why they are doing it. We go to church to get the word of GOD not our elected official. They can’t talk about the separation between church and state while preaching from their elected office. The problem is that's what too many of them are doing.

Many wars have been fought using religion as the weapon. The people behind the wars only seek to gain power and wealth. They use the devotion people have to their religion to get them to do ungodly things. We have religions fighting religions mostly because they disagree over who is in second place. Most if not all religions believe that GOD is at the top and in control but they differ about the number two spot, being Jesus or Muhammad or whoever. It is just insane seeing people kill each other about second place. It is also insane watching people being used with their religion when you can tell by the action of those in charge that it is all a lie.

I am going to try to leave Rick Perry alone but not yet. He has been the Governor of Texas for many years but didn’t decide to have a call to prayer until he was running for President.






Michele Bachmann didn’t tell us that God wanted her to marry the gay guy (not that there is anything wrong with that) she just did it. She didn’t tell us that GOD wanted her to go to law school she just did it. Why did she have to tell us that he wanted her to run for political office?









I believe that evil is out there and that we should not do anything to help it gain power. Are they walking the walk? Acts 5:29 says "We must obey God rather than human beings"

Another Texan

On Saturday Gov. Rick Perry from the Great State of Texas will announce that he is running for President of the United States of America. I have nothing against Texas except that they seem to be starting a trend of getting rid of their crazy Governors by sending them to Washington D.C. like they did with George W. Bush. Now they want to get rid of Rick Perry. Why can’t they just recall him or not reelect him like other states.

I have several friends in and from Texas. I like the state very much because it gave me my wife. I was stationed in San Antonio for 9 years and loved it. The people were very nice. I remember having a flat tire once while I was there and it took a long time because I kept stopping to tell people that I didn’t need any help. Like everywhere Texas has its crazy racist people too. Let’s just leave it at that. I think I have already told that story before somewhere in my writings.

Mr. Perry is too much like former President W. Bush. They seem to be proud of their ignorance. He has said that Texas has the right to secede from the union if it wanted to do so. Now I’m not a constitutional scholar or anything like that but I thought the civil war was fought to settle the issue of secession. Texas did have the right to break into more states but not to secede from the union. Mr. Perry should know that and I believe he does. I think he is playing to his mouth breathing base. What is sad is that the knuckle draggers don’t know it.

I am not the smartest guy around and if I can find this in just a few minutes then I know Mr. Perry can do the same. I think he is just stoking the fear his base has and trying to use that fear to get into the White House.

Come on Texas don't do this to us again. George W. Bush was enough.

Why I write

I was asked recently why I write this blog. My answer was as I have said before “to get it off my chest”. Another reason is because I watch way too much news and I am home alone and this is my way of talking back. I heard someone say “people don’t drown because the water is too deep; they drown because they stop kicking”. This is one way that I kick.

I know sometimes I write about some sensitive subjects and some people prefer that I didn’t. I have a gay friend that thinks I need a body guard. He doesn’t like to be called gay because he is really bisexual but I call him gay anyway. That is an inside joke and I just felt the need to put it in here. Either way I write about what is on my mind and sometimes I am reacting to what is in the news that day.

Today I am complaining about the amount of money in politics. Last night they had recall elections in Wisconsin. They are reporting that between 30 and 40 million dollars was spent in that election. That is insane. I have never heard of that kind of money being spent on a state election. They are saying that most of the money was from out of state. The question is why? Why is the state senate election important? The answer is unions. I am a union supporter but not the multi-company unions. Like anything I think some companies are too big and the same goes for unions. That is just my take on unions.

There is nothing to stop me from getting too big because I have rights and thanks to the Supreme Court the same goes for companies. They say companies have the same rights as people. WHAT? Those rights include allowing them run election ads. Well I will let you read for yourself.

Compassion

I’m going to shift gears here and talk about something I think some of us are lacking and that is COMPASSION. I’m not talking about anyone in particular so don’t start emailing me because you think I am talking about you because I am not. If you feel guilty then look in the mirror and evaluate what you see.

The Government continues to cut money from social program like Medicare and education. There is only so much money to go around. When money is being taken from one program it is being moved to another. I think it was in 2003 when then President W. Bush cut taxes from 39% down to 35%. That is all good if he felt like the government was bringing in too much money. President O’bama has continued the same policy as if the government is bringing in too much money. My problem is the cutting of programs. Why does the government continue to cut money from programs like Medicare and Pell Grants? Maybe it is because those people don’t have influence in the White House. Social Security is in their crosshairs. They are working on a way to sell it to the public. Mark my words.

They can do this because too many of us don’t have compassion for those that have so little. We seem to feel like as long as it doesn’t affect my family then I don’t care. We complain because we see someone in the grocery store with food stamps getting a T-bone steak when WE feel that they should be getting ground beef or no meat at all. Rather than view that as the exception to the rule we view it as the rule. I don’t believe people on food stamps are eating steaks every day. I also don’t think that because someone buys a steak they should be removed from the program. Now, do I believe there are people out there abusing the program? Yes I do. I don’t think there is a program out there that is not being abused by someone.

The same goes for tax breaks. I don’t think all tax breaks are being used the way they were intended. They said they were reducing tax rates so there would be more money to create jobs but unemployment continued to go up. We should be complaining about that. Jobs continue to be shipped overseas and to Mexico and the companies call that profit. We should complain about that. CEOs, Wall Street and Big Oil continue to have record profit but the wages of others stay flat. We should complain about that. Hedge Fund people pay 15 to 18% in taxes on 100s of millions of dollars. We should complain about that.

It’s like when people are complaining about voter fraud because 1 or 2 people were caught outside their district voting and by the way it is very rare. We don’t say a word while a very organized group is committing election fraud. Go online and see just how easy it is to steal an election. They get us to fight amongst ourselves over the little things while they do the big things.

I only write this stuff because I believe there are more of us WITH compassion than there are those without it. WE have to be heard. You see what happened when President O’bama was elected. It scared people so much that they formed the Tea Party. They thought their country was being taken away from them.

Compassion is being taken away from the government. I don’t mind paying taxes as long as it is used to educate the children, take care of the poor and defend the country. Those three things I feel the government is obligated to do. I know there are more but I put those at the top of MY list. Only after obligations have been met should tax breaks be given. Anyone that cuts social programs while giving tax breaks should be impeached. I feel that TAX BREAK is a way of saying we have money left over.

Maybe I have too much compassion for others and I am missing something. Let me know what you think.

The GOP

The GOP may be fighting for their lives if they continue to let the Tea Party call the shots. The Tea Party is like the old Dixiecrats were in 1948. The Dixiecrats were a group of segregationist that was a part of the Democratic Party. Unhappy with the Civil Rights policies the Democrats were adopting the Dixiecrats tried to bring in new leadership. They were not successful but continued to campaign for “States Rights”. Does that sound familiar? They wanted states to have the right to continue Jim Crow laws and have less regulation so that business could discriminate without the Federal Government stepping in.


In the 1960s political and ideological lines were drawn between the Democratic and Republican Parties. Liberals and moderates moved from the Republican Party to the Democratic Party and conservatives moved to the Republican Party. All of this happened because of Civil Rights. The Federal Government gave equal rights to all people and regulated business to prevent discrimination.

The GOP or the Tea Party is calling for “Less Regulation and States Rights”. They are also saying “No Compromise”. That last one “No Compromise” is almost insane to me. When you are dealing with laws compromise is almost always part of doing business. Right now the Debt Ceiling vote is being held up by the Tea Party members of the GOP because they don’t want any type of tax increase. They say the Government spends too much money. I agree with them on that one. That is about the only thing I agree with them on.

The GOP/Tea Party said they want to take reduce spending to what it was in the 1960s. I would like to see them try to run their home based on the average income of the 1960s. They would be homeless if they tried. When people have that type of ideology you just have to walk away. There are some people that you just can’t work with.

Years ago I was working with a guy on a project. We were supposed to be equals but I knew from the start that we were not. He had the connections needed to make the thing work. Everything I wanted to do he had a problem with and the things he wanted to do he would just implement. Sometimes he would tell me first sometimes he would not. It was his way or no way. People tried to warn me but I always had the mindset that I could work with anyone. Now I know that some people just refuse to work with others. In the end I just walked away. That Is the Tea Party.

The GOP needs to walk away from these people. You can’t work with everyone. Not because you don’t want to but because they will not let you. They want less regulation of business because the free market will force them to do the right thing. WHAT? That is just nonsense. Business exists for one reason and one reason only and that is to make money. The good that they do in most cases is secondary. I am pro-business but they are run by people and people don’t always have the best interest of others in mind.

The Tea Party is a loud and demanding group of people and they say some crazy things sometimes. They say those things over and over without any comments from the leaders of the GOP. One has to assume that the GOP leadership agrees with the things the Tea Party people are saying if they are not correcting them. I know not all GOP people are Tea Partiers but all Tea Partiers are GOP.

The Tea party is the second birth of the Dixiecrats under a different name. They may want to go back to the 1960s but the question is will the GOP go with them and try to drag the rest of us along.

Debt Ceiling

I know even before I start to write this that some of you are not going to agree with me. I know this because the people that read my blog have a large range of incomes. One reader I am guessing makes less than 10K a year, four I think are making in the eight digits and one I am pretty sure is around nine digits or close to it. I could do a post just about one of his houses. The thing is huge. His guest house is bigger than my only house. I also know a few that pretend or talks like they are rich but in reality they are far from it or hide it very well. I say this because I believe your income level has something to do with your political views. It is not the only thing but I believe it plays a part. One of the rich people that I know thinks the way I do about taxes. I know this only because we have had conversations about the debt ceiling and taxes.


In the news for the past few weeks is the subject the Debt Ceiling. The Right Wing wants spending cuts and the Left Wing wants Tax increases. One would think this would be an easy solution but it is far from easy. The Left Wing is willing to compromise but the Right Wing backed by the Tea Party is saying they are standing firm on no Tax increases. Let me say up front that I don’t like the Idea of paying more in taxes. I also don’t like that we are engaged in multiple wars around the world. I didn’t like it when we invaded Iraq. I didn’t like it when we didn’t use the military to save people when Katrina hit New Orleans. I didn’t like it when the Patriot Act was passed and O’bama renewed it. My point is there are lots of things the government does that I personally don’t agree with. That doesn’t mean I should not have to pay my taxes. I hear people say that the government is too big and I agree but this is a big country.

The Right Wing likes to say “it’s not the government’s money, it’s your money”. That’s a load of crap. We as a people have to pay the government. Having the military to protect us, roads to drive on, clean water to drink, air that is somewhat clean, and multiple other offices to regulate business to protect the citizens. These things are not done free of charge. Now if you ask me if I think that the government spends too much or waste lots of money, I would say yes it does. After being in the military for 20 years I can say without a doubt, it wastes lots and lots of money. That being said I can also say people waste lots of money. I will go further and say I waste lots of money. People waste money that is what we do. Should the government looks for ways to save money? I say yes.

This debt ceiling is coming down to the wire. There have already been some spending cuts so I would vote to raise taxes up to 40% for everyone making $1,000,000 and up. For my readers in this group I say I’m sorry and I am very proud of you. Paying taxes is the price you pay for living in this country. When I was in the military it was considered PATRIOTIC to serve your country and possibly making the ultimate sacrifice by giving your life. Why is it that when the government asks for some of your money it is considered Socialism? That doesn’t make sense to me. Giving your time and life is patriotic and giving your money is socialism. Please someone explain that one to me because I truly don’t understand it.

I know people don’t like to have money taken from them. I believe that is why President Bush didn’t have a war tax to fund his wars. If he had done a war tax people would not support it very long. There should be a law stating that for every war this country is engaged in there has to be a tax to support it. That would make more people pay attention to what is going on. I know that would not fix everything but I think it would help. As long as people don’t have skin in the game they don’t care what happens.

I would also end tax breaks for companies making over a billion dollars a year. No tax breaks for companies with more than 50% of their labor force is outside the United States. I would close corporate loop holes. I would do all I could do to raise revenue. While that is being done I would also try to end as much waste as possible. The last thing I would do is take money from the people that already have very little. I know there are people on Social Security that should not be getting it. I just don’t think that number is as high as the amount of money we give away to the multinational companies. There are too many people barely getting by on Social Security and Medicare to cut it.

There are lots of things wrong with this country. Our government is broken. It spends too much on some things and not enough on others. What those things are will vary depending on who you ask. I’m not sure what the answer is or how to fix it. What I do know is that it should not be done by taking away from those who have so little. We should not deprive a person of an education in order to give a rich person a little more money. I don’t have a lot of money and I hate having to give more money to Uncle Sam. What I hate more than that is seeing people lose their home. I really hate to see people that are hungry and forced to live on the street. I hate to hear about the children in Alabama that don’t have enough money for school books but plenty of money to fund the Confederate Cemetery. We can do better than this.

We have the wrong people in office.

Open to Debate

My last two posts struck a nerve for some people or made them uncomfortable. This blog that I write is meant to make people think and it allows me to vent. I want people to post their comments but it doesn't seem to work out that way. Most people either email their comment to me or they say them to me in person. One lady that I respect a lot quoted Mother Teresa to me; "I was once asked why I don't participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I'll be there." The setting in which the quote was given to me was not conducive to a long political dialog. I like the quote and understand it. The problem is that I, meaning me, have no problem doing both.


One guy said that I may need to hire a body guard because I should not write about race this way. He said that the things I said were true but I should not put them in writing. I told him that I write about what is on my mind or about things that I come across in the media. The last two were mostly about conversations I had with one person.

The thing is I am pretty open with people that I talk with. People can talk to me about anything and don't have to watch their words when speaking. I like to think that you can speak your mind and do it freely without being afraid you may hurt my feelings. I understand when people are talking to me and not at me. I don't call people names or insult them when we are having a conversation. I want to hear what they have to say. I love to listen to people talk and want to understand the way they think. Even if I don't agree with them I want to hear what they have to say. Most of the time I prefer to talk with people that I disagree with more. People with far right ideas I love talking to more than anything else.

There was a guy one time that told me that he wanted a law that would allow children to go to the Doctor under the parents insurance without the parents knowing anything about it. Because I didn't agree with him he called me an idiot. It was funny to me because he got that upset about a law he wanted to pass here in Nevada. He was also upset because he could not make me think his way. Even though he could already take his daughter to the doctor and give him permission to treat her without him being there he wanted a law taking that responsibility away. I simply didn't agree. I didn't think it was that big a deal but he did. I guess I don't have that strong of an urge to always be right. I do have an urge to speak my mind and share my opinion. Then it is up to you to take it or leave it and to share yours.

The things that I write are not meant to hurts anyone's feeling. Only to open debate on ANY subject. As always your comments are welcomed.

Zero Sum

I was listening to a friend over the weekend go on and on about how white people are discriminated against. He likes to talk and sometimes I think emotion get the better of him and he ends up saying things that he doesn’t mean, so I thought. I say that because he is the only white person that I have ever heard say that. I know lots of white people and with many of them we have had conversations on the subject of race. He is the only one I have heard say that he has the short end of the stick.


Yesterday I was listening to NPR and they had Michael Norton on. He is the co-author of a Harvard Business School study that reveals that whites believe that discrimination against them is on the rise. Also on the show was the author of Color Blind, Tim Wise. My friend talks about how he didn’t get a job because of quotas and how minorities get contracts just because of their race. How there are special awards for black people (BET). Even though that one is not true, BET gives awards to all races. He went on and on about how white people can’t do the same things as black people. I will agree with him on that point. White people can’t call their TV station White Entertainment Television. They have to call them ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, TBS, CNN, MSNBC, MTV, TV Land, Discovery Channel, History Channel; I think you get the idea. On all those stations you will mostly white people. That’s the way it is and that’s the way it always has been. Then came BET and if you wanted to see mostly black people you had a station to turn to. If you notice I said A station, meaning ONE. I’m not sure if he is complaining about black people having a station of if he is complaining that they use the word “Black” in the name. I guess I should ask him. The thing is, if black people had not been shut out then they would not need to create their own home. When you look at the BET Awards, it is a mirror image of the other award shows for white people. BET gives awards to mostly black people and 1 or 2 white people. Whereas the other award shows give awards to mostly white people and 1 or 2 black people.

Rather than complaining about the need to build their own home some white people are complaining about them having a home. When you look at how hard it was for blacks and other minorities to get anything for a very long time in this country. It is amazing to hear people who are upset that they have something. It’s like getting beat in the street then someone complain about you getting blood on the sidewalk. That person complaining is not looking or is unable to see the bigger picture. These people are looking at the result and not the cause.

I know this is not a comfortable subject for many people. I could be like one friend and prefer to not talk about it and almost pretend everything is fine. He feels that because most of the problems happened before I was born that it should not concern me. Some feel that talking about this only creates more of a separation between the races. I don’t know what the answer is but I don’t think ignoring it is the solution either.

Independence Day

On the 4th of July I got this Tweet: Independence day, the day in the history of our great nation that we decided that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. Enjoy it and remember it.


I tried to ignore it but I could not. The next day I responded to it by saying that the Tweet was not correct. It sounded good and I understood what they were trying to say but ALL MEN were not free at that time. I said in response that all WHITE MEN would be a truer statement. That too was not correct. What I should have said was ALL MEN (except black men) were created equal.

The reason I am posting this is because the person that made the Tweet emailed me saying that their Tweet was correct. I know some people don’t like to let little things like FACTS get in the way of their argument. Some people like to argue just because they don’t want to be wrong.

I don’t think they were trying to be disrespectful. I think they were just feeling patriotic and wanted to share the feelings thru Twitter. Maybe I should not have responded to it and just let it go. There is NO part of me that thinks this person is racist in any way. I was just surprised when they disagreed with me and said they were sticking to the original Tweet. We spent about 6 hours emailing each other disagreeing on what I call documented facts and they call my opinion.

I understand some white people don’t like admit that this country treated black people like animals. That doesn’t change the facts. I don’t blame the white people of today for the things that happened many years ago, but that doesn’t change the facts. I understand that it is a shameful part of America’s history, but it doesn’t change the facts.

They said “enjoy it and remember it”. So let’s remember it.

On July 4th 1776 this is what was written: When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

I’m not going to post the entire Declaration of Independence. They went on to list several grievances they had with the King of England regarding the treatment of the colonist. They didn’t bother to exclude black men (I believe) because they considered them to be the same as cattle and chickens. Some of the people that signed the document were slave owners. These are FACTS not OPINIONS. Slavery is an ugly part of America’s history and you CAN NOT dress that turd up.

My reason for posting this, other than just needing something to blog about, is I would like to hear from people that feel that I should not have responded to the Tweet or that the Tweet was correct.

Anthony Weiner

The Republican Party is trying to force Congressman Weiner out of office because he sent pictures of his groin to some women and was flirting with them. There is NO ONE in the Democratic Party supporting him. As you may recall in my earlier postings that I say that Democrats are a bunch of spineless pussies and Republicans are a bunch of bullies. This situation proves my point.



The list of Republicans that have been caught up in some type of sexual vice is long. Many were not just sexual but also illegal. Some of those Republicans resigned and some did not. With the exception of Larry Craig they (The Republicans) didn’t even ask their perpetrators to step down. Since Clinton was caught getting his Monica, the Republicans have been caught in more sexual scandals than Democrats. I say it that way because it is true, but also to say that Democrats have been luckier. These are powerful men, and women (in general) are attracted to power the way men (in general) are attracted to beauty. There are lots of sexual things going on in and around that Capital building. If they were to all come out we would not have many Democrats left. The Republicans would stay.


Democrats need to grow a spine and stand up to these bullies. As long as the Republicans still have David Vitter they should not even be allowed to ask ANY Democrat to step down. I understand the “protect you own” mentality but you can’t go after someone when you have someone on your team (David Vitter) who has done worse. Only in Washington D.C. is this possible. Members of Congress have done worse than Mr. Weiner and kept their job.

I guess the Hypocrisy this time really bothers me. I know it is always there but combine it this time with the Democrats not defending the person that defends their causes the most just upsets me more this time.


The Democrats are too weak to stand up for him so in my little way I’m trying to help him. How can we expect Democrats to stand up for us when they will not fight for one of their own?


Mr. Weiner broke no laws that I know of. He made some STUPID decisions but they were not illegal. He should not be forced out of office because he belongs to the wrong party. Someone has to stand up to the Republicans and I’m trying to help him. No one else seems to be willing to do it.

Now Folks Want To Get Mad

A friend sent me this and as you can see I liked it enough to post it. I don't agree with every word 100% but almost. Clinton played a large part in the deregulation on Wall Street and that let the bats out of their cage. Bush had time to fix it and he didn't. Bush passed the Patriot Act which is just one of the many things he got wrong and O'bama has not fixed them. In fact he just extended the Patriot Act for four more years. I have friends who say that I am an O'bama supporter and that I never complain about him. I try not to use names on here but I am going to make an exception. Quetta, O'bama was wrong to extend the Patriot Act. He should end it along with many of the things your best friend and favorite President George W. Bush did during his 8 years. See I can complain about him too. Anyway here is the e-mail. Enjoy and think.

Remember these? Americans have a short attention and memory. They will transfer these abominations of Governmental leadership from the Bush/Cheney years to the Obama administration, regardless of the truth in History. And you know why? Even well-meaning Americans will be seduced by the dark side.

When a black man was elected President and decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, job losses by the millions, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, and the worst economic disaster since 1929 are all okay with you, but helping fellow Americans who are sick...Oh, Hell No!!

Bush's Credit

Back in 2002 President Bush said this.



I was okay with what he said then. He is on the inside and getting information that we will never know. He was the one responsible for making the decisions on military actions. If he felt that Osama was not that big a deal then I can accept that. I didn't hear any Republicans at the time or now complaining about his statement.

Now it is as if the Republicans are trying to rewrite history. Saying that Bush deserves credit for what Obama ordered the Navy Seals to do. Obama said when he was running for The Presidency that he would try to get Osama. He got him. Now the Republicans want Bush to get credit for what he said he was not trying to do. I would like my Republican readers to please explain this to me. Post it in the comment section. You don't have to put your name on your post.

I put the video up because one Republican friend tried to tell me that Bush never said what he said. The beauty of internet is that if you say something on video it will live forever. You can't un-ring that bell.

OSAMA

Normally the things I post are based on what moves me to do so. This time I am posting because I was asked.

When I heard that Osama had been killed I was relieved. When I saw all the people cheering and dancing in the streets I was a bit saddened. I just can’t celebrate the death of another human being. As bad a person that Osama was there were people that loved him and those people are hurting. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand why they were celebrating. I do understand that everyone doesn’t see the world the same way I do. Here’s the thing. If I had been in Obama’s shoes I believe I would have given the same order he did. I would have sent those guys in to get him and kill him.

I tend to try to look at thing from both points of view. I may not always put it to paper but that is because I am not a writer. I hope I get better as time goes on but as you see in things that I have written that sometimes I will go off in left field and get off topic (like now). That’s because I’m not a writer.

Back to topic. I agree with The President about not releasing the pictures. Some people want to see the pictures because they like seeing gore. Others want to see the pictures because they don’t want to believe the White House. Those that don’t want to believe WILL NOT believe. Some people see conspiracy in everything this President and/or the government does. Here is my conspiracy theory. I made this up last night while talking this over with my wife. The Bush Administration found and killed Osama in 2002 and burned his body. That’s why Bush said “I am not looking for Osama anymore and don’t spend any time thinking about him”. They didn’t tell anyone so that they could keep the wars going. Obama gets elected and found out what they had done. Rather than tell the American public they decide to pretend to kill Osama and bury the body at sea so that they can end the war. That’s as good a theory as any other. Feel free to add to it. Obama's Papers

Yesterday President Obama showed his birth certificate trying to prove to the Birthers that he is an American citizen. Let me first say that there is nothing that he can do that would make this group of people believe that he is legit. They will never accept a black man as their President. It upsets me that he would even respond to their idiotic claims that he is an illegitimate President.

This reminds me of the times when free black men had to carry their papers on them to prove that they were free. This is not those times. The President of the United States should not have to answer crazy questions from a bunch of knuckle draggers. It is like trying to explain quantum physics to kindergarten children. Truth be told, I think they understand but refuse to accept it.

A friend tried to compare the Birthers to the people that would call President W. Bush dumb. I disagree with her only because those people did that because of things Bush did and said. Like making up words and pushing doors that he should have pulled. The comments were based on his actions. There is no foundation for the illegitimate claims cast on President Obama other than the color of his skin.

I am happy that I’m not the President because the television stations would have to beep me if I had gotten the question about my birth certificate. Never in the history of this country has a President had to endure this level of disrespect. I don’t think I could smile and put up with it. I don’t agree with the President most of the time. He doesn’t fight enough for me. I believe in compromise but he seems to cave in and give the Republicans what they want far too soon.

I support the President but I don’t like the way the Republicans are treating him. He is allowing them to treat him like some “House Nigger”. I know I’m not supposed to use that word but no other word seems to fit. My mother sometimes reads my blog and because of that I can’t write some of the things I’m thinking right now. This really has me pissed off. He needs to stand up to these people. I know it is not all Republicans but until some Republicans denounce the Tea Baggers and Birthers, they are one.

Let me end by saying that if I could talk to President Obama I would tell him that he does not have enough papers to satisfy the knuckle draggers. There is no point in going down that road and he does not have to. He is the President of the United States of America so grow a spine and act like it. The Birthers are a bunch of F-ing racist and he can’t please them, so just plow thru them.
